Syria: Before the Crisis (2010)

While the political issues are extremely complex and all “experts” agree there is no simple solution, over 250,000 Syrians have been killed in this conflict, with 8 million displaced internally as well as 4 million living as refugees in neighboring countries.

I traveled to Syria in 2011 when the first killings of “only” 26 people occurred in Daraa. No one could have imagined the horror over the ensuing four years, with no end in sight. Many of these images are of places, and in some cases people, which no longer exist.
