Iran: Inside the “Den of Spies” (2015)

On April 18, 2015, I led the first American group allowed to reenter our former Embassy in Iran since the Hostage Crisis of 1979-80. The building is now a museum labeled “The Den of Spies.” A member of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard guided us through a six-inch steel door to the second floor of the Embassy that had housed intelligence operations, a fascinating collection of 1970s-era technology and spy-craft, as well as anti-American posters. During our visit we learned the Iranian perspective of their Revolution and conflict with the United States.
